Preparing Your Mind
“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
– 1 Peter 1:13 (ESV)
The word “prepare” used in the passage is from the Greek word anazónnumi, pronounced an-ad-zone'-noo-mee.
Meaning, I gird up, brace up (with a view to active exertion); a metaphor from the girding of the flowing tunic, to prevent its hampering one in active work.
Simply stated, to gird up so you will not be hampered. I like to say it like this your mind has to be focused on the action you receive from God and you your actions will not be hindered.
At this moment in history there is so much coming at you from outside influences. These influences come from friends, teachers, leaders, social media, just to name a few. So often if you disagree with others, you are unfriended, ignored and even pressured to the point of being emotionally paralyzed.
Jesus made it very simple as He walked through the pressure of daily life.
“So, Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the father does, that the Son does likewise.”
– John 5:19 (ESV)
Questions to ponder
How do you define, “Being Prepared”?
How do you prepare for your day?
Really think! Who influences you?
Who do you follow on social media or what author’s books do you read?
Thoughts for the day!
If you follow the pattern Jesus laid out for you and I, then what do you have to lose. You will lose the very things that hinder you from being focused, from finishing what you start and from being prepared.
Remember, He makes it happen; you make it count!
